Russia refuses to abandon wheat export duty for Egypt
MOSCOW, Feb 12 (PRIME) -- Russia is not ready to abandon a grain export duty for Egypt yet as its legislation foresees flat duties for all countries, an Agriculture Ministry representative told PRIME on Thursday.
“If the measure proposed by Egypt, abandoning of the wheat export duty, is implemented, it will also cover other countries,” the representative said.
“As for abandoning the wheat export duty, according to Russian legislation, the rates of duties are flat and can not be adjusted depending on persons or countries importing or exporting goods,” he said.
Russia imposed the wheat export duty of 15% plus 7.5 euros, but no less than 35 euros per tonne, from February 1 until the middle of 2015 to stabilize the situation on the domestic grain market.
Egypt expected Russia to abandon duties on exports and delivery of wheat at least from June–July, the country’s Industry and Foreign Trade Minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour said in an interview with PRIME Monday.
